I’d Like to Order One Viral Sandwich Please
The FDA, stooping to a new all-time low, has now approved experimental viruses to be sprayed on food to kill bacteria. And this is just the beginning, the company that produces these biotech wonder bugs, Baltimore-based Intralytix Inc, is planning all sorts of news viruses for our food supply.
A cocktail of six viruses will be spayed on processed luncheon meat, like turkey and ham, as well as chicken. The goal is to kill a rare but nasty bacteria known as Listeria monocytogenes. The company is also seeking FDA approval for viral sprays to treat foods that could be contaminated with E. coli and Salmonella, which means these viruses will end up in a majority of the protein foods in the food supply.
